At what temperature to serve wine

The decision has been made! You'll soon be opening (or unscrewing) your favorite bottle of wine! But what is the actual best serving temperature?

Pouring wine and temperature?

When preparing a bottle for serving, allow time for it to warm up - by raising or lowering the temperature (cooling) - to the correct serving temperature. This ensures an optimal experience of the taste and aroma of the wine.

Here are some guidelines, but the most important rule we want to tell you is “use the temperature you want and not what the “experts” say”. After all, it is your wine and you decide what temperature you prefer!

Red wine should be served chilled slightly below room temperature (between 12-19˚C). The precise temperature is determined by the age of the wine. Older red wines better served at about 17-19˚C and younger wines colder.

Red wine with stronger tannins should be stored warmer than lighter red wines (which can even be served up to 12˚C).

White winesshould simply be served colder than red. But they should not be kept so cold that they affect the aromas. Instead, white wine should be chilled (8-12˚C). Full white wines better served at about 10-12˚C and light white wines colder.

Sparkling wines and sweet white wines should be served even colder Champagne should be served coldest of all (5-8˚C).

The opposite is also true; poor storage can spoil even the best wines in the world.

If you don't want to wait until your favorite bottle has reached the right serving temperature, consider a wine climate cabinet - our website - with multiple temperature zones. With such a cabinet you can serve the wine at any suitable temperature, but also store your delicate wine in the best possible way.
