Why a cheese climate cabinet?

Of course you can store cheese in the refrigerator, but then you run the risk of the cheese becoming too cold, too hard or even too dry!

If you place your cheese outside the “kitchen refrigerator”, the cheese will not be at the perfect temperature and you will not be able to ignore the smell!

Some information about temperatures for cheese:

  • Brined cheeses (Beaufort, Gruyère, Feta) between 8 – 10° C
  • Soft ripened cheeses (Brie, Camembert, Humboldt mist) at 8° C
  • Pont l'Evêque cheese between 8 – 12° C
  • Blue cheeses (Roquefort, Danish Bleu) between 11 – 13° C

The best temperature for all cheeses together, for serving, is around 13° C.  Then the cheese is creamy, easy to cut and no longer too cold!

How to store cheese?

store cheese by wrapping it in “cheese paper”. Also try to renew the cheese paper every time. Store cheese in the cheese climate cabinet (or otherwise in a bell jar in the cellar, for example). This prevents it from coming into contact with moisture (where the temperature and humidity are most constant). Vacuum-packed cheese has a longer shelf life and stays fresh longer because it does not come into contact with air.

Mold?

Mold on soft cheese is not good: In that case, throw away the cheeses as the mold can easily and quickly penetrate through the cheese.

Mold on hard cheeses is still possible but then you have to cut away the mold. Do not touch the cheese, because the mold starts to mold very quickly in these places. Also pay attention to the smell and whether the cheese is still hard. If this is not the case, we advise you not to consume it anymore.

Finally: Never store cheese for longer than three weeks, so you always have fresh cheese at home.

Additional information (tips):

  1. The small cheese climate cabinet is equipped with 2 wooden shelves that you can remove from the climate cabinet -> you immediately have a cheese board!
  2. The larger model also has extendable shelves, but they are larger (therefore heavier), so we have provided them with a stop so that nothing can fall off the shelves. You can of course place a wooden board on such an extendable platform, which also creates a cheese board!
  3. You can also simply put cheese on the bottom of the larger model, but it is also possible to place the cheese plates + cheese knives there, so that you have everything at hand and at the right temperature.
  4. Take your time with your cheese board and serve it with a delicious glass of wine or port.
  5. You can also put other products in the cheese climate cabinet, such as butter (so that the butter does not harden).
